CAREGIVER RESOURCES
Practical support for family caregivers.
Caring for someone with a serious illness can be physically and emotionally demanding. This page offers a simple starting point for questions, communication, and day-to-day support.
START WITH THE BASICS
You are not expected to manage everything alone.
The hospice team can help explain what to expect, what changes to watch for, how to use medications or equipment included in the plan of care, and when to call for help.
For patients receiving care, Metro Medical Hospice provides 24/7 on-call support for urgent questions and concerns.
HELPFUL QUESTIONS
Questions caregivers can ask the hospice team.
- What changes should we expect as the illness progresses?
- Which symptoms should prompt a call to hospice?
- How should medications be given and stored?
- What equipment or supplies are included in the plan of care?
- Who do we call after hours?
- What support is available if caregiving becomes overwhelming?
- What grief or family support is available?
CARE FOR THE CAREGIVER
Your wellbeing matters too.
Caregiving can bring fatigue, worry, grief, and practical stress. Accept help when it is available, share concerns with the hospice team, and tell someone when the situation is becoming difficult to manage.
Hospice may also provide emotional, social, spiritual, and bereavement support depending on the patient and family’s needs.
